Reiki Symbols

Reiki symbols are sacred visual emblems used in the practice of Usui Reiki, which is an energy healing method developed in Japan. The symbols are supposed to help practitioners focus intention, channel universal life-force energy (ki), and support specific aspects of a healing session. They are traditionally introduced as part of Reiki training and are drawn, visualized, or mentally activated by practitioners to assist with everything from boosting energy flow to emotional balance, distant healing, and spiritual connection.

The most widely recognized traditional Reiki symbols include:

• Cho Ku Rei (Power Symbol): Used to amplify energy, provide protection, or increase focus. Often thought of as a “light switch” for Reiki energy.
  
• Sei He Ki (Harmony Symbol): Associated with emotional and mental balance, helping promote clarity and calm.
  
• Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (Distance Symbol): Enables practitioners to send healing intent across space and time. Useful for distant sessions.
  
• Dai Ko Myo (Master Symbol): Considered the most sacred, associated with deep transformation, spiritual insight, and Reiki attunements.

Reiki symbols are not “magical sigils” in and of themselves; their effectiveness in a session arises from the practitioner’s intention, focus, and energy awareness rather than the graphical form alone. Practitioners visualize, draw, or meditate on these symbols to help direct energy purposefully in a healing practice.
